I am a licensed psychologist and have been in private practice for 10 years
in Rosemont, PA. My academic path started with an undergraduate degree in
psychology, cum laude from Rosemont College. This was followed by working in
social service for two years where I realized that I wanted to work with
people in a more in-depth way. At Hahnemann University I received
a Masters Degree in 1980 in Group Process and Psychotherapy. In-patient
and out-patient settings were part of my practicum experiences while in the
program and included: Eugenia Hospital, Eastern State School and Hospital,
Children's Crisis Treatment Center, and a Philadelphia Community Mental
Health agency.
After graduation from Hahnemann University, I worked in an outpatient mental
health setting for a year and this was followed by 5 years working as a
therapist at Malvern Institute, a drug and alcohol treatment center. At
Malvern, I did individual and group therapy, and conducted family education
sessions. While raising my children, I stayed involved in the mental health
field by working for Family and Community Services of Delaware County
running children's groups. This was followed by conducting group therapy for
sexually abused latency aged girls through Family Support Line in Media, PA.
In 1999, I received a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (Psy.D.) from Widener
University. Clinical experiences while a student included: Psychological
Services Center (an outpatient facility affiliated with Widener University
and The Institute for Graduate Clinical Psychology), Valley Forge Military
Academy and College Counseling Center, and Margolis and Shrier Health
Psychology Practice in Philadelphia. Although I have always been interested
in the mind-body connection, it was at Margolis and Shrier Health Psychology
that my interest became solidified. Here, I received training in hypnosis,
which I continue to use in my practice. While as a student, I also sought
out and obtained training in other mind-body approaches such as EMDR (Eye
Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing).
Following graduation from Widener, I took a post-doctorate position at the
Renfrew Center, Philadelphia where I had the opportunity to work with
individuals with eating disorders, many of whom had trauma histories. As
coordinator of the Trauma Track, I became more aware of the importance of
the stages of trauma treatment. Individual, group, and family therapy were
all part of my therapist responsibilities at Renfrew.
In 2001, I opened my private practice in Rosemont, PA. I have enjoyed
working with adolescents and adults with a variety of issues. Some of my
specialty areas are: Depression, Anxiety, Post Traumatic Stress,
dissociation, relationship issues, and adjustment to chronic medical
conditions.
In addition to my private practice I was Clinical Supervisor at Daemion
Counseling Services in Berwyn, PA from 2008-2011. I am a Past
President of The Greater Philadadelphia Society of Clinical
Hypnosis. My other professional affiliations include:
American Society of Clinical Hypnosis
International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation
Pennsylvania Psychological Association
Philadelphia Society of Clinical Psychologists
